The late John S. Knight, past publisher of the Miami Herald, instituted the program in 1958.  In the 1984, the program was expanded to honor Broward County students. Every spring the Miami Herald and el Nuevo Herald celebrate the achievements and community service of our finest high school seniors by presenting the Silver Knight Awards.
